An elegant home once occupied by the Von Haunts sat at the edge of Windenberg. The family put their home into a trust with the intention everyone could enjoy its splendour. Rumours they could not afford the upkeep remained unfounded. Yet, they seem to allude to the spotlight these days. It overlooked the green lands and out towards the epeiric Sea, a body of water flowing to the North Sea. The southern windows were the reason Patrick chose this venue.

Extensive gardens invited people to immerse themselves in history. In bygone eras, this was a place for celebration. To the left was the ruins of the old stables. Patrick could imagine nobility prancing on their horses, yelling at the stable keepers. In the centre, there would be ladies in their finery, swooning over handsome men. Here everyone indulged in afternoon tea. The lawns, their topiary and roses led the way to a waterfall. Here the wedding arch where Patrick hoped to marry Leticia awaited. It could have provided a fitting tribute to his parents. Instead, another couple were standing beneath whispering their ‘I do’.
On the opposite was the maze created with bushes over six feet tall. Patrick loved hearing the rumours of young lovers escaping the eyes of their parents. Or those secret affairs with nobility and their staff? Either way, they remained lost in the maze. Patrick wanted his romance to be amongst the many this place created.
The Von Haunts Estate played host to weddings, visitors, and social events. His mother, Emilie had worked here when she first met Rylan. It was their wedding venue, complete with vampires facing death by fire. Patrick smiled and recalled his father embellishing the tale. Rylan loved to share this story as he played the hero. Patrick could not imagine a more perfect place to marry Leticia. The host led him up the elegant staircase to a bedroom with an on-suite. The deep oak furniture gave the room warmth as it cosied up with the soft fabrics. Patrick could not wait for his first night as a married man. He would lay peaceful with this around him, Leticia in his arms after months apart.

Eliza straightened the tie, brushing lint from the blue jacket. She sniffed, turning away to wipe a tear before it ruined her make-up. Her brother looked handsome. His beard trimmed, a comb through his hair, and a navy suit. It was an upgrade on jeans and beige shirt. He had them worn since Leticia was ill. The couple paired back their wedding plans, keeping attendees to a minimum. They moved the ceremony inside. This allowed Daciana and her tutor in the occult, Casimir, to be present. Patrick hoped there would be no repeats of his parent’s wedding.
The blue theme flowed throughout the décor, with a change to the bridesmaid dresses. Luliana was happy as it meant another day trying on dresses. The saddest part was having to go with Eliza for the fitting, but the day was here, and this colour made her eyes pop. She would take the aisle first, smiling at the few faces, shivering as she caught Casimir’s eye. He made her feel uncomfortable. Daciana felt the same way as she sat statue stiff beside him. Eliza and Patrick took their places by the alter as the signal came for Leticia’s arrival.
