Her breath was shallow, eyes were like saucers watching a transformation. He altered the physical form of peachy human flesh to a yellowed apple green. His eyes blackened with galaxies swirling within them. Koa held the power of metachrosis to make himself appear human through the colour of his skin. It was their camouflage in a world which would otherwise reject and fear them.
Koa remained curious why a creature such as herself would escape to Sulani. It was true the sun burned her skin and could be fatal. Daciana loved being on the edge of danger. Death would call for her, but since it was not this day, she wanted to taste life. The alien seemed happy with her answer. He wanted to explore and experience the world. Absorb its many flavours and opportunities. He lived in secret amongst the humans. Koa chose to hold a mundane job where he could watch their behaviours.

He had never met a vampire or any other occult. From what he understood, they were private. The kind humans imagined lived deep in the forest or hauled up in the ancient mansions. There were horror stories of vampires tearing out the throats of their victims. Romantic novels with the twist of bloody death. Of misunderstood creatures forced to hide, snacking on goodwill and plasma packs. Daciana giggled, suggesting they go with the latter if he would be so kind.
She could feel her hunger growing. The sweet caramel notes of bourbon whiskey danced in the air between them. Koa wanted to trust she meant him no harm other than a pleasant meal they could both walk away from. Daciana watched the throbbing pulse in his throat. She was too consumed by hunger to consider what differences may dwell in his blood. Koa let a heavy breath escape, and checking they were alone, he tilted his neck.
The blood ran red like humans, with undercurrents of a flavour she could not discern. Bourbon brought a heady mix to the blood, with the sweetness undercut by the blend of barley, wheat and rye. The blend sat on ground corn, giving it the depth of flavour the alien craved. With gentle pressure, he pushed Daciana back. She pouted, wanting to please her growing appetite. Koa cupped her cheek thumbing her bottom lip, suggesting she respond to the first taste.

He took her hand and led her down the beach, away from prying eyes. The tips of her fingers tingled a sensation that spread through her body as his blood mixed with hers. Her dilated pupil appeared black as the aliens. Inside a racehorse attempted to break through her ribs. Daciana noted the world took a warm glow. The stars seemed brighter as they danced on the lapping waves. Beneath the moonlight, she threw her arms around Koa and inhaled. He staggered back, surprised by the affection. He was not dismissive, as Daciana pressed herself against him. Her tongue licked his healing wound, a lazy giggle as her head rested on his shoulder.
Daciana had a happiness never before experienced. It smelled of grapefruit, cinnamon and bourbon. It tastes bitter and sweet. It felt like her body was humming to the music of Sulani, its oceans, birds and the distant noise of its inhabitants. It came in the form of a green alien, and she wanted to keep him, to keep this feeling.
