Casimir was lukewarm to touch because of a slight tremor in his hands. The shivering was often mistaken for being of a cold disposition. As their hearts were useless after death, vampires used rapid contractions of the peripheral muscles. It helped the blood flow and digestion. The warmth from fresh human blood heated them for a short period. Thus, the Ministry of Magic forbade draining humans for this reason. Daciana failed to see how this shaky existence improved upon the human life her sister lived.

Daciana tossed the package in the bin, disgusted by its bland contents. Her un-life would be a series of plasma packs, but the memory of blood tempted her. She could feel her power over the woman as her life force flowed. Being pulled away before she could have her fill made her crave blood. Casimir locked the door of her bedroom for a week. Daciana clawed the door starving. She pounded her fists against the unyielding wood. They lost her screams of cruelty in the basement.
Daciana wanted someone to understand her pain. Casimir was like her, a half-blood, but he reprimanded her inability to gain control of her hunger. She tried, taking dainty sips of the plastic-packaged blood. His voice sounded jealous as he rebuked her lack of guilt. Daciana felt no remorse for her actions in the restaurant, at least not for the meal she enjoyed. Her pain came from the terrified members of her family.
The recent attack at the restaurant triggered Leticia. Her fear was all Daciana could sense when they were together. It stopped her from focusing on the conversation and ignited her hunting instincts. The woman at the restaurant suffered mild anemia, losing a small amount of blood to sate Daciana. What happened with Leticia, the Ministry declared as unfortunate. An unlucky occurrence that the family should be safe from in the future. The turned vampire can consume half their body weight in blood within the first few hours. It is no different for the born vampire coming into their powers. In the past, a captive human was bound and forced to await their fate. Casimir seemed almost sickened by this reference, a piece of his past he longed to forget. Daciana noted the glossy film over his brooding eyes.

He moved swiftly into the transitioned Vampires. They too consume significant blood, around two litres. It is problematic if taken from the same victim, but with training, they siphon a smaller amount. Casimir had adjusted to the plasma fruit, and human blood was a rare indulgence. Asking permission through subtle gestures allows the vampire to receive blood. An offered wrist or neck puts the human in control. This Daciana would need to learn if she is to survive in this world.
Patrick shuddered, knowing there was something Casimir held back. Daciana clenched her fists; her family feared her. What use did it serve to hide the whole truth? In rare circumstances, vampires can develop an unquenchable thirst. They were killers, unable to stop their desire to drink. The Ministry of Magic buried or destroyed all they discovered. Leticia whimpered, covering her mouth and avoiding Daciana’s gaze. Casimir raised his voice, determined to drown Daciana’s voice and make her stop. It was too late. The words left her mouth, stunning Patrick. Watching as Leticia ran from the basement.

Daciana slammed the door in Casimir’s face. He warned her not to tell her parents the truth. She was not like that. She was in control. They were holding her prisoner. There were late-night movies she wanted to watch. She could meet other teens and they could enjoy moonlight raves on the Bluffs in Windenberg. Daciana longed to discover the world as her sister could. What good are these lessons if all her life is the four walls of her windowless cell? And above all this, nothing Casimir did prepared her for the knowledge she would die.
